Maharashtra Government Eases Overseas Education Scholarship Requirements

The Government of Maharashtra has made a groundbreaking decision that will certainly open better opportunities for many eligible students dreaming of an international education. In a significant shift, the State has relaxed the stringent conditions previously imposed on ‘Overseas Education Scholarships’.

Read on to find out all the new changes and how they can be beneficial.

What’s New?

The Maharashtra Government has decided to modify the restrictive conditions imposed on Overseas Education Scholarships for SC, ST, OBC, Maratha, and EWS category students.

  • Reduced Cut-Off

Previously, students needed a whopping 75% in Class X, XII, and Graduation to qualify for the scholarship application. However, under the new recommendations, applicants will require 55% in Graduation to apply for a Master’s Degree Scholarship and 55% in Master’s Degree to pursue PhD abroad.

  • Tuition Fee Coverage Limit Cap Removed

Earlier, the tuition fee coverage limit was capped at INR 30-40 lakhs but now it has been completely removed. Yes, you read that right. The State Government will now cover the entire fees for studying in a foreign university.

  • Enhanced Living Allowances

The prior annual limit of INR 30 lakhs for Graduation and Diploma courses and INR 40 lakhs for PhD programs is also removed. Instead, the Government will now make the entire payment to the university as required. Other than the full payment an additional INR 12 lakhs will be given for living expenses.

  • Higher Family Benefit Limitation

Another fantastic update is the family benefit limitation change. Previously, only one student per family could be a beneficiary of this scholarship. But now, up to two students from the same family can avail this opportunity. This is a huge relief for families with more than one child aspiring to study abroad.

These latest changes announced by the State Government aim to support eligible and meritorious students from SC, ST, OBC, EBC & MarathaKunbi communities with annual family income less than INR 8 Lakhs. The official statement detailing these changes is expected soon, so students planning to apply for these study abroad scholarships should stay updated by regularly checking the government’s official website. In addition to the eligibility criteria mentioned above, another essential requirement will be that the applicants must be enrolled in a Foreign University or Institution. They need to have an unconditional offer letter in hand.
